NIE Tenerife: the forms, the cita previa and the right side of the island

Santa Cruz or Adeje? EX-15 or EX-18? Tell us where you live and what the number is for. We prepare the forms and the Modelo 790-012, help you secure a cita previa at the police office that takes your procedure, and tell you what to carry on the day.

Island logistics

Two coasts, two main offices.

Two police offices anchor the NIE at either end of the island: the provincial Brigada de Extranjería y Fronteras on Calle Ramón Pérez de Ayala in Santa Cruz, and the Comisaría Sur in Las Terrazas, Adeje. Santa Cruz, La Laguna, Candelaria and the north coast tend to look to the capital; Adeje, Arona, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Granadilla de Abona are nearer the south office. Distance is not the whole rule, though: the procedure decides, and the confirmation of your appointment names the office that expects you.

North of the island

Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras de Santa Cruz de Tenerife

C/ Ramón Pérez de Ayala, 6, 38007 Santa Cruz de Tenerife

The capital’s office lists the widest range of procedures, the TIE included: residents of the south who need a card should plan at least one trip north.

Procedures the source lists

  • NIE certificates and assignment
  • EU registration (régimen comunitario)
  • TIE issue
  • return authorisations
  • students
  • extensions of stay
  • non-lucrative residence
  • asylum
  • travel documents

Named “Comisaría de Tenerife Norte” on the police e-office (sede.policia.gob.es). The source gives no opening hours: the time is the one on your appointment confirmation.

South of the island

Comisaría Sur de Tenerife (Adeje)

Sector Cero, Parcela C.N.P., Las Terrazas, 38660 Adeje (Santa Cruz de Tenerife)

The Comisaría Sur in Las Terrazas assigns NIE numbers and registers EU citizens, close to the resorts and the towns of the south coast.

Procedures the source lists

  • NIE certificates and assignment
  • EU registration (régimen comunitario)
  • extensions of stay
  • cédulas de inscripción
  • invitation letters
  • nationality reports

The south's office in the official list: none is listed in Playa de las Américas or Arona. TIE issue is not among the procedures the source gives for it, and no opening hours are given.

Oficina de Extranjería, Delegación del Gobierno en Canarias

Calle La Marina, 20, 38001 Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Its web page lists residence and work permits, the relatives’ card for Europeans’ families and appeals. Further down, the same page also names the NIE, the EU certificate and the TIE, then sends NIE requests back to the police units; the police directory, for its part, keeps the NIE and the EU certificate at police offices. No phone, no hours on that page. Two sources, two versions: your appointment confirmation settles which office expects you.

The police directory also lists NIE assignment at the Comisaría de La Laguna (C/ Nava y Grimón, 66) and the Comisaría de Puerto de la Cruz - Los Realejos (Avda. José del Campo Llarena, 3), which lists TIE issue as well. No opening hours are given for any police unit.

Towns, town halls, the trip

Your side of the island.

The NIE is a police matter, the padrón a town-hall one, and the two rarely sit in the same building. Find your area, then the two desks it points to.

The number

One reference. Every counter on the island asks for it.

The NIE, explained
Calle San Agustín in the historic centre of La Laguna, lined with ochre and white colonial houses with wooden windows and dark stone corners

Tenerife draws people for very different reasons: a retirement in Puerto de la Cruz, a season in a Costa Adeje hotel, a laptop on a terrace in La Laguna, a flat in Los Cristianos bought for the winters. Nearly all of them reach the same counter sooner or later. The NIE — Spain’s Número de Identidad de Extranjero — is what the notary, the bank, the employer and the tax office will ask for.

On an island the paperwork is only half of it. You also need to know which police office takes your procedure, whether the drive from the south to Santa Cruz is unavoidable, and how to catch a slot in the cita previa booking system before someone else does. We settle those questions first, then prepare the file, so the morning you give up for the comisaría is not wasted.

What it opens

  • Sign the deed for an apartment or a finca at the notary
  • Have a Spanish current account opened for you
  • Sign a contract with a hotel, a bar or an excursion company
  • Register as autónomo and invoice your clients
  • Put electricity, water and internet in your name
  • Buy, insure or register a car
  • Pay the IBI and the non-resident tax on a holiday home
  • Register with your town hall and the health system

Help topics

Pick your layer.

Your passport decides most of the route, so the topics are sorted by it. The island paperwork concerns everyone.

How it runs

From sea level to the stamp, in four stations.

  1. 01

    Tell us where and why

Your nationality, where on the island you live or will stay, and what the number is for. That is enough for us to name the procedure, the form and the office that fit your case.

  2. 02

    We prepare the file

We complete the EX-15, EX-18, EX-17 or EX-19 that applies, fill in the Modelo 790, código 012 for the right procedure, and send you a checklist of the originals and copies to gather.

  3. 03

    We watch the booking screen

We search the official booking system for a slot at an office you can reach, north or south, and check the procedure and the address with you before it is confirmed.

  4. 04

    You go once, prepared

Before the date you receive a short brief: where to go, what to hand over and in which order, and what the officer may ask about.

Why people write to us

Paperwork, read the island’s way.

Who is behind it
  1. We start with the map

North or south, Santa Cruz or Adeje, police or Delegación: we work out where your procedure belongs before anything is booked.

  2. Forms filled for your case

The right form, the right box on the 790-012 and a checklist built around your situation rather than a generic list.

  3. English with you, Spanish at the counter

Every step is explained in plain English, with the Spanish terms the officers use, so nothing gets lost in translation on the day.

  4. Private, and says so

Independent and private. You could file all of it yourself for the tasa alone; we save you the hours and the guessing.

Beyond the number

When your list is longer than one number

Visas, a flat to find, a request you would rather start from your sofa than from a police waiting room: two independent services pick up where we stop.

Cita previa, offices, papers

Asked most often.

Cita previa NIE Tenerife: how is it booked?

Online, on the administration’s cita previa site: choose the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, then the trámite (asignación de NIE, certificado de registro for EU citizens, or the toma de huellas for a TIE), then an oficina and a time. Check that the office is on Tenerife, and on your side of the island, before confirming.

Where is the NIE office in Tenerife?

The two main police offices are the Santa Cruz Brigada Provincial de Extranjería y Fronteras, C/ Ramón Pérez de Ayala 6, and the Comisaría Sur de Tenerife in Las Terrazas, Adeje. The police directory also lists NIE assignment at the La Laguna and Puerto de la Cruz stations. Addresses, phone numbers and sources are on this page.

Can I get my NIE in Adeje, in the south?

Yes. The Comisaría Sur in Adeje lists NIE assignment and EU registration. It does not list TIE issue, so non-EU residents go north to Santa Cruz for the card.

Which papers go into a NIE file in Tenerife?

The EX-15 (EX-18 if you are a European settling here), passport plus photocopy, evidence of your reason — a purchase contract, a job offer, an inheritance — the stamped 790-012 tasa slip and your cita previa confirmation.

Huellas TIE Tenerife: where are the fingerprints taken?

At a police unit that lists TIE issue: the Santa Cruz brigade on Calle Ramón Pérez de Ayala, or the Comisaría de Puerto de la Cruz - Los Realejos. The Comisaría Sur in Adeje does not list it, so residents of the south travel north for the card.

Empadronamiento in Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Adeje: where do I go?

In Santa Cruz, to one of the seven OAIC citizen offices, La Granja on Avenida de Madrid being the central one, with a cita previa from the city’s e-office. In Adeje, to the SAC at C/ Grande 1, booked on citaprevia.adeje.es. Other towns run their own padrón.

What is the horario of the NIE offices in Tenerife?

The official directory gives no opening hours for the Tenerife police offices. Your appointment confirmation states the time you are expected; arrive a little early with every paper ready.

How is the NIE tasa paid?

On the 790-012 slip: tick the box for your procedure, pay at a bank or online before the day, and carry the stamped copy. The state sets the amount, and the slip shows it.
